Pinterest Project: Ikea spice rack bookshelves

At the beginning of the year I purchased this ^^ bookshelf for Remington's room so we could get his stuff out of our living room. I added left over fabric from his nursery curtains for a pop of color.

Everything was fine and dandy until we started collecting way more toys and a ton more books.

I decided that his books needed to have their own space. Pinterest was my go-to for ideas or course, and this is what was created.

We had an awkward little space of wall between the door and the closets where they fit perfectly.^^

Now the original shelf can be just for toys ^^

I'm happy with how his little room is coming along!

24 weeks

I am 6 months pregnant.
 Only 4 more to go!
I've really packed on the lbs in the last 4 weeks...
I'm really not surprised because I'm hungry ALL.THE.TIME.
No specific cravings.
Everything tastes good.
My baby bump is getting round.
I'm carrying a lot higher than I was with Remington (see photo below).
No new stretch marks so far (whew!)
I think Rem stretched me to full capacity.
The little miss loves to do somersaults and kick.
She's kicking so hard that we can already feel them from the outside.
My feet have already started to get swollen.
I can't imagine how the summer heat is going to affect me...
August seems soooo far away.
She needs to hurry and get here because Rem is dying for a baby sister ;)

spring break

Yesterday we got back from a much needed vaca. We spent our time catching up with loved ones and doing some serious shopping. I can't wait for baby girl to wear some of her new outfits!!! Remington was a great little travel buddy. He still hates being in the car for long periods of time but we made sure to stop along the way so he could get out and stretch his legs. It was so fun to watch him play with his cousins. We took him swimming for the first time too! Unfortunately, the weather turned out to be pretty crummy but we didn't let that ruin our trip.

Thanks for a fun time Utah, we're ready to take on the new semester!

lately...

Today I took my last final of the semester.
I haven't showered or slept in a week and my house is a mess.
I learned that I have to retake one of my classes and won't be graduating until December.
School is hard when you have babies...

I'm looking forward to spring break.
We're heading south to visit family and do some serious retail therapy.
Praying for warm weather...

and finally,
our little lady has a name.
It's different and a little old fashioned, but we love it.
We are so anxious to meet her.

see rem grow

^^this photo comparison gets me every time I look at it. Why do they have to grow so fast!!!!!!

The monthly letters I've been writing to Remington are mostly for me to document his "firsts" and for him to be able to look back and read someday.

Lets be honest, I know most people really don't give a crap when he waved goodbye or slept in his crib for the first time. But I am so happy that i've been able to record down those seemly insignificant moments and take obnoxious amounts of pictures of my sweet baby boy. Life is moving at turbo speed and I want to be able to remember every one of those moments with him.

...

The real purpose for this post is that I wanted to compile a list of all the big milestones he's hit over the past 12 months and have them here in one spot. So here it goes:

From birth he was strong enough to lift his head on his own
1 month he was in 3-6 month clothing
2 months he doubled his birth weight at 16.5 lbs!
3 months he was sitting on his own
4 months he weighed in at a hefty 20lbs, 27inches, learned how to roll
5 months completely outgrew the infant carseat and upgraded to a big boy one
6 months he was crawling and wearing 18-24 month clothing
7 months furniture walking and first word "dada"
9 months took first steps, cut 6 teeth at once and weighed in at 26lbs (big month haha)
&
10 months officially walking!!!

I've posted the links to each month's letter below if you want to go back and read them :)
I promise I won't be offended if you don't ha!

my experience with babywearing

From day one Remington insisted on being held. He was only happy when he up close, in our arms, seeing the world from our view. He was content up on our level. We tried to put him in his swing and his bouncer but he didn't care for those. He only wanted to be held. Not only did he want to be held, but he had to be moving. He would cry and cry and cry if we stopped bouncing or rocking him while we held him. People told us we were spoiling him because we held him so much. I was worried that we were but my motherly instinct knew that Rem was different. He needed that "touch", it just so happened to be all.the.time.

I began to envy the mother's who's babies we deemed "lap children" aka their babies were content to just "be."

We were at a lost as to what to do. With our busy school schedules it was nearly impossible to hold him all day long and try to get anything done.

It was then, in our desperate hour, that I discovered the world of babywearing.

Babywearing is exactly what it sounds to be. It is the practice of wearing or carrying your baby in a sling or other type of carrier and has been practiced by mothers for centuries around the world. The more we read about it the more excited we were to get started. We learned that there are so many benefits of babywearing. The biggest selling point for us was that we could have our hands free!! Hallelujah!

Our first carrier was a secondhand snuggli. Then we received a baby bjorn as a gift.  They did their job but were not ideal for long periods of time. They put lots of pressure on our lower backs and were not very comfortable.

After a few months of putting up with these carriers I decided to do some more research. I found that we had only skimmed the surface of babywearing products. There are so many different types of slings and carriers, made out of different fabrics and all claiming to be the best, it actually became a little overwhelming. The prices killed my dreams of trying out all the fancy carriers too. Someday I'd love to invest in a Mei Tai or an Ergobaby.

Since our poor college student budget wouldn't allow for the name brand carriers, I decided to make one instead. My dear friend Nicole, who is extremely talented seamstress, helped me pick out the perfect stretch fabric and construct my own homemade moby wrap. It literally took us 15 minutes to sew and cost a total of 14$.

This wrap was heaven sent. Remington loved being in it. We used it all the time!! We loved that we could wear him in the front or the back and that it was sooo comfortable to wear for hours on end. Often times Remington would fall asleep when we went out on walks or simply did stuff around the house. It was so easy to just throw in the diaper bag or stash under the stroller when we were on the go.

Now that Remington is walking we don't use the carrier as much. He prefers to explore on his own. We still keep the wrap stashed in the car just in case.

I plan to wear baby girl from the start. I think it will be essential since i'll need both hands free in order keep up with a busy toddler. I'm so happy that we've been able to wear Remington. Now looking back I know that we were not spoiling him, we were responding to his needs and giving him exactly what he needed.

>>As a side note....David's hotness level increased a gajillion points when he put that baby carrier on.

Real men wear babies. The end.
